5 Common Questions About Boveda for Medical Cannabis

1. How does Boveda work?

Much like a thermostat, Boveda dials-in and maintains the ideal RH level in for cannabis containers—between 58% and 62% RH.

Creating a terpene shield is only possible when you use a product that can quickly achieve the right environment (specifically, the right relative humidity) where this shield can form. Then precisely maintain that environment to keep the shield intact.

Only Boveda, a salt-based humidity control packet, can achieve and maintain a precise humidity level to create and sustain a terpene shield.

Boveda creates a powerful terpene shield of water molecules that protects precious trichomes in herbal medicine. cannabis storage, cannabis humidity packs, curing cannabis

Unprotected flower in cannabis storage containers starts to degrade immediately. To stop this degradation and save terpenes and other cannabinoids, you must keep the relative humidity level (RH) in cannabis containers at the ideal level for cannabis.

HERE’S HOW:

A salt-based solution is sealed in Boveda’s patented vapor phase osmosis membrane. As needed, Boveda releases and absorbs pure water vapor into herbal medicine to shield trichomes in protective water molecules.

Those water molecules released by Boveda create a powerful terpene shield that prevents evaporation and preserves terpenes, cannabinoids and THC.

2. What size Boveda do I use in my cannabis storage container?

3. How many Boveda do I need for herbal medicine?

Because Boveda knows when to stop adding moisture to a cannabis container, it’s impossible for Boveda to humidify beyond the RH on the pack. So the big concern is are you using enough Boveda.

We recommend using the largest Boveda that will fit in your cannabis container. Using more than the minimum size, helps the cannabis humidity packet work more efficiently and last longer.

4. What RH do I choose?

Both Boveda 58% RH and 62% RH take your bud to the right level of moisture. Choosing between Boveda 58% RH and 62% RH is a personal preference depending on how you prefer your cannabis experience and the humidity level of where you are. Some consumers choose 58% RH for personal-use products (blunts, joints, pre-rolls and dry herb vaporizers) and 62% for larger cannabis storage. 58% RH versus 62% RH for your flower? 5. Can Boveda touch herbal medicine?

Absolutely. Bury Boveda in the bottom of your container, set a humidity packet on top of your flower or nestle among your buds. (Or do all three!) Boveda is safe to touch flower because it’s made from food-grade ingredients.

Inside each Boveda is natural salt, pure water and a food-safe thickening agent sealed into a vapor phase osmosis membrane. Boveda’s exterior is food-safe Kraft paper and inks.

Only pure water vapor is allowed in and out of Boveda's membrane.

6. When do I replace Boveda?

For curing and storing cannabis, Boveda lasts 2 to 4 months in an airtight cannabis container, like a jar, bag, tote, bin or CVault®. In a container that is frequently opened and closed (think flower for personal-use or daily consumption), Boveda lasts up to 2 weeks.

When the contents inside Boveda become rigid, it’s time to replace Boveda.

7. What’s the shelf life of unused Boveda?

Up to 2 years if Boveda is kept in its original packaging—even if you’ve opened the bag. Boveda is shipped in a high-moisture-barrier resealable plastic bag. When you open the bag, you’re making the Boveda “work” for a small amount of time. To preserve Boveda’s shelf life, remember to re-close the bag when you remove your humidity packets.

8. Can I cure cannabis with Boveda?

Absolutely. First, dry the flower using your preferred method to a moisture content just below where you’d like to cure your cannabis. The cannabis drying stage does the heavy lifting while Boveda fine-tunes your cannabis during the cure. Just store your herbal medicine in airtight container with Boveda to cure and mature your cannabis.

While you don’t have to burp your containers when you use Boveda to cure cannabis, some cultivators prefer to do so.
