Can I calibrate my hygrometer using any RH Boveda?

No, you cannot use Boveda 49% RH or High-Absorbency 49% RH packs to calibrate a hygrometer. Designed for use in musical instrument cases, these Boveda achieve a relative humidity range, as opposed to a specific* RH, so they would not be effective for calibrating your hygrometer.

Here are the Boveda you CAN use to calibrate a hygrometer:

  • 58% RH
  • 62% RH
  • 65% RH
  • 69% RH
  • 72% RH
  • 75% RH

Here’s how to calibrate a hygrometer with Boveda:

  1. Put your hygrometer or humidity sensor in an airtight environment. like a Tupperware® container or Ziploc® bag.
  2. Tightly close the container or bag.
  3. Check back in 24 hours.
  4. If your hygrometer reading doesn’t match the RH printed on the Boveda pack, adjust by the number of points the hygrometer is off, then re-test using the same Boveda.

For added accuracy, use Boveda’s professional-level One-Step Calibration Kit to recalibrate the upper and lower readings of your hygrometer.

Do not mix Boveda RH levels in the same container when you are calibrating your hygrometer.

* In an airtight environment, these Boveda are accurate to +/- 2% of the RH printed on the pack.
