Terpenes

WHAT ARE TERPENES?

Terpenes are organic chemicals found in cannabis that give your flower her unique aroma and subtle taste. If you look closely at a bud, you’ll see tiny stalks with large bulbous gland heads. These are called trichomes. A trichome’s gland head is where cannabinoids and terpenoids are made—the therapeutic compounds exclusive to this amazing plant.

Cannabis researchers are studying how terpenes and other cannabinoids work together in an entourage effect to relieve pain, anxiety, depression, inflammation and other ailments.

WHY WORRY ABOUT TERPENES?

Terpenes are the tell-tale sign if your flower is fresh or not. You might believe cannabis buds should have a strong aroma when you open the jar or bag. Truth is, the fresher your flower, the less she’ll give off a strong scent.

Why? Moisture is the key to preserving your flower’s terpenes, potency and effects. Boveda automatically adds and/or absorbs a precise amount moisture into your cannabis container to keep flower from degrading or molding.

When flower degrades, terpenes evaporate and trichomes get brittle and break off and with them go her cannabinoids. And once all these goodies are gone, you can’t get them back.

With fewer terpenes, she’ll deliver a compromised experience.

SEE WHAT’S GOING ON INSIDE BOVEDA WHEN IT’S IN WITH YOUR FLOWER (Pictured Above)

  • Boveda releases pure water molecules that shield terpenes to prevent them from evaporating.
  • The terpenes stay outside Boveda’s food-safe Kraft paper exterior (shown in tan).
  • Only water molecules flow in and out as needed from Boveda’s patented membrane (shown in white).
  • The blue layer depicts the salt-based solution of pure water and natural salts inside Boveda. The salts are the brains that know when to absorb and when to release the water molecules. The salts never leaves the protective membrane.

HOW YOU CAN SAVE TERPENES WITH BOVEDA

Shown left: Up close shot of cannabis that shows the trichomes. Shown right: view of a trichome in the molecular state that shows the monolayer shield of moisture created by Boveda.

When you store your flower with Boveda, a saltwater solution creates a monolayer of purified water molecules that naturally coats your trichomes. This shield prevents the evaporation of terpenes. So you haven’t lost the smell you love, you’ve saved her precious terpenes.

Just place Boveda in an airtight container with your medicine and Boveda technology will do the rest. Your flower will stay fresh with stable moisture content to deliver a consistent experience every time.

Perfectly preserved cannabis releases her terpenes—that aroma, that energy—with great vibrancy when finally ground. The effect and experience you paid for is never lost to evaporation when you store your medicine with Boveda.

THINK YOUR FLOWER’S FRESH BECAUSE SHES IN A CLOSED CONTAINER?

Your flower can dry out even if you seal her in a medicine bottle, jar, tin or plastic bag. Why? Those therapeutic terpenes evaporate into a cannabis container’s head space (the air inside). Boveda prevents terpene loss. Here’s proof.

Scientists at a cannabis testing facility in California:

  • Filled two identical mason jars with the same strain of medical grade cannabis.
  • Placed Boveda in one jar. Left Boveda out of the other jar.
  • Sealed the jars.
  • Tested the terpene levels after 6 weeks.

CANNABIS PROTECTED BY BOVEDA HAD 15% HIGHER TERPENE AND CANNABINOID LEVELS THAN UNPROTECTED CANNABIS

Boveda will last 2 to 4 months in an airtight container or up to 2 weeks in a container that’s frequently opened and closed.

Here’s a handy chart that shows what size Boveda is right for your cannabis/hemp containers:

Size 1 Protects up to 1/8 oz (3.5g). Size 4 Protects 1/2 oz (14g). Size 8 Protects 1 oz (28g). Size 67 Protects 1 lb (450g). Size 320 Protects 5 lbs. (2.5gk).

You can never use too much Boveda in with your flower. So if you have an eighth and only have Boveda Size 8 on hand, by all means, use that pack! Using more Boveda means you get more efficient and longer lasting moisture protection. You can use a larger size Boveda than the one recommended in the chart. Using a larger size will make Boveda last longer. As well as using multiple of the same. Boveda will never over-humidify your flower. NOTE: Never mix RHs.
