What Boveda RH Should I Use in a Woodwind Reed Case?

Both 72% RH and 84% RH (relative humidity) Boveda keep woodwind reeds moist and pliant. Which RH you choose depends on how wet a woodwind reed should be. The higher the RH, the wetter the reed.
  • For Day-to-Day Storage: Boveda 72% RH suits most woodwind players who play frequently. At 72% RH, reeds stay sufficiently humidified for immediate use.
  • For Same-Day Performances: Boveda 84% RH ensures optimal humidification for top performance. Storing reeds at 84% RH eliminates the need to wet reeds in water before you play.
  • Frequent Performer? We recommend having two separate reed cases. Load one with a 72% RH and the one with an 84% RH. Covers all the bases if you’re called into a last-minute gig or jam session.
Do not mix different Boveda RH levels within the same reed case. And do not use Boveda in the same case with other humidification products because they will fight against each other and reduce the efficiency of Boveda.
